आदिवासी

The आदीवासी

The Adivasis (Tribe) have life long relationship with the Jungle (Forest). They assume the forest and the nature as their property Jangle has been acknowledged father or forefathers like .In their culture, there is a tradition to worship the animal beings. To kill some animals and cut some selected tree is regarded a sin, there fore some trees have been prohibited to cut and take in domestic use. They lead very plain life and use the resources of Jungle in limit. They consume the product of Jungle according to their own constituted laws. They live in Jungle and protect it they even try to avoid destroying it in any manner .They earned even income through selling collected product from Jungle and fullfill their supplementary requirement.

The Adivasis are used with clean and pure atmosphere. That is why they dislike urban and modern life and manners. They are so depended on the Jungle that it is difficult to imagine life without it for them. They know it well how much Jungle is important for their life.

There are more than hundred varieties of trees in the Jungale. Each kind of the tree has a different value and meaning for them. They obey their duty determined by the ancestors throughout life sincerely Mahua, Salfi, Saal are the trees which is used by the Gond Adivasi in their daily life so they never destroy them.

There is a tradition in Adivasi’s life that they could collect medicine root, fruit, leaves and hunt the animals according to their requirement other wise they think the lord of the Jungle (Vandevta- God of Forest) will get filled with anger and they may have to be victim of his anger .Thus the Adivasi strictly obey the nature. There is depicted 750 animal beings and tree, plants in their culture which are protected by every Adivasi family.

The Adivasi people protect wild lives and plants .The Gond tribes have its many sub-casts which are called “GOTRA”. Every Gotra has its own lord of race (Kuldevi) some important trees and plants which are responsible for different manner and deferent Gotra . They are as follow:-

Tree and leaves of Shahja :- The lord ‘Dokradev’ resides under this tree. The liquor of Mahua has been devoted to the lords putting on the leaves of Shahja. The Trees standing on Place where the lord Raodeo lives are prohibited to cut and use in household requirement.

Tree of Shahja, Plass, Peepal : The lord Raodeo who is responsible for farming and crops resides among these three trees .

The tree of Kumbhi: The tree of Kumbhi is the lord of the seven brothers of Kumeti Gotra, It is considered great sin to step on the shadow of this tree and cut by axe.

The tree of Kassi : This tree is the lord of the seven brothers of Uika Gotra, and Kachlam Gotra so they don’t go against the laws about this tree.

The tree of Dumar : It is found the evidence of residing of the leady lord ‘MATADEVI’ so this tree is protected by the Gond and prohibited to cut.

The tree of Beeja and Tendu : The famous and venerable lord of Gond Aangadev is framed with the wood of these trees, therefore domestic use of these trees are limited .

Semar and Neem : Semar is considered male and Neem female which is personified as the sister of the lord “DOKRADEV” Koisee. These trees are also hardly seen in domestic use but the leaves of Neem are used as insect killer in farming .The oil of Neem’s seed is used on wound and itch as medicine.

Thus in the Gond Adivasi culture it is a tradition to protect and develop many trees and plants of jungle, as well as animal beings are also protected. The people of Marai gotra who are seven brothers in number don’t kill and eat ‘Gohia’(varanue). The people of Shori Gotra don’t hunt lion. The Snake nag (Cobra) is considered the lord of Poya Gotra so they worship it and don’t kill it. Tortoise is the lord of Netam Gotra. These rules are determined by the ancestors of the Gond, which have been followed by the people and the society of the Gond. Their self dignity is from the Jungle there is recognition of the Gond Adivasi that –where stands a dense forest the people of the land are lucky because it take prosperity and happiness to their life. Although they don’t own sufficient land but a dense forest can help them to earn their living. They depend completely on the Jangle. They collect useful things from the jungle in the month of January to June in a large number but in the remaining time of the year they could not get a lot. They can get some income by selling products collected from the jungle; they lead a happy life into these eight months of the year.

Leading a life according to the laws of the nature, they ever have a smile on their face because they live in present and do not care for future. They believe in this way “no saving, no cares”. Adivasis not only consume the jungle but they have a deep relationship with the nature they respect the mother earth and other living beings.

The Adivasi have dense and sufficient forest land but they never misuse of it. The Adivasi are generally greedless, they live in huts with family, and they cure their diseases and wounds with help of herbal medicine gained from the forest. Many times skin, bones, nail of animals and bark, leaves, essence, fruit and flower also are taken in use. They even believe in blind faiths of magic soul, ghost etc. and perform their own religions rites.

The pride of Adivasis lies in the jungle. Not only India but whole the world has admitted that where the Adivasis reside, the jungle is safe and secure. Modern and developed world caused the destruction of the forest and environmental imbalance.
